New noninvasive technique to detect colorectal and gastric cancers found

A preliminary evaluation of methylation of two gene promoters in fecal DNA showed promise as a noninvasive method to detect colorectal and gastric cancers, according to a new study published online August 21 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Report highlights deprivation gap caused by late diagnosis of cancer, differences in treatment choices

There could be as many as 14,000 fewer cases of cancer each year in England if everyone was as healthy as the richest 20 per cent in the country. And the difference between the classes is more marked among men than women. Among men there were 21 per cent more cases of cancer in the most deprived areas compared to the least deprived, whereas the gap among women was 11 per cent.

Third-quarter fiscal 2009 results announced by Magellan Health Services

Magellan Health Services, Inc. today reported net income of $31.0 million, or $.88 per diluted common share, and segment profit of $64.5 million for the third quarter of 2009. The Company also increased guidance for the full year to the upper half of its previously disclosed range.
