According to a study published in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) journal Gastroenterology, 1 in 120 people newly diagnosed with diabetes age 50 and older have a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer - a risk that is eight times more than expected for the general population.

Fraunhofer scientists are using this property to detect cancer cells in tissue samples. Such rapid tests can already be applied by surgeons during operations - within a few minutes and without expensive equipment.

New study to find best way to give blood transfusions for severely injured patients

Researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) are launching a new research study to find the best way to give blood transfusions for severely injured patients predicted to require massive blood transfusions upon arrival to the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center emergency department. Bryan Cotton, M.D., of UTHealth is principal investigator for this clinical study.
