Inbreeding between royalty led to facial defects

The royal dynasty that ruled huge Spanish and Austrian territories over the last century was called the Habsburgs and were famous for more than their imperial majesty. The "Habsburg jaw", a facial condition that afflicted these kings and queens, was well known. Now a new study says that this facial dysmorphism was due to inbreeding. The study was published in the Annals of Human Biology.

Study compares outcomes for in-person and in-home telerehabilitation following TKR surgery

Patients who received rehabilitation instructions via video teleconference, or "telerehabilitation," following total knee replacement (TKR) surgery had comparable outcomes to patients who received in-person physical therapy, according to a study appearing in the July 15 issue of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.

WFP to deliver emergency aid to Cuba in response to Hurricane Sandy

"The U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP) is to deliver emergency aid to the south-east of Cuba, where Hurricane Sandy wrought widespread damage," BBC News reports. "The WFP is also appealing for $20 million (£12.5) to help some 425,000 Haitians affected by the storm," the news service writes, noting, "The WFP is planning to work with the Cuban government to distribute emergency one-month aid in Santiago de Cuba, which is home to 500,000 residents."
