LPHC to acquire Santos Administraçāo e Participações regional healthcare system in Brazil

LONDON PACIFIC & PARTNERS, INC., the international advisory and investment firm, today announced that LP Healthcare Group, LLC ("LPHC"), a joint venture between London Pacific and Incite Financial, LLC, has signed an agreement to acquire Santos Administraçāo e Participações S.A. ("Santos") — a regional healthcare system including a 125,000-member health maintenance organization (HMO) , three hospitals with a total of 290-beds, three full-service primary care centers and other related interests in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The three hospitals include a 250-bed comprehensive regional hospital and two local hospitals.

New immunosuppressive regimens may improve outcomes for kidney transplant patients

Preliminary results from a $5.2 million clinical trial led by University of Cincinnati researchers show that the immunosuppressive drug belatacept can help safely and effectively treat kidney transplant patients without the negative long-term side effects of traditional immunosuppressive regimens, the study's leaders announced this week.

Filthy nursing home in Thursday Island – manager fired

The manager looking after an aged care facility in the Torres Strait Islands has been sacked after the nursing home was found filthy and unsuitable for patient care. According to Torres Strait Regional Mayor Fred Gela, the nursing home in question is Star of the Sea on Thursday Island and the incident occurred after the state of affairs was brought to notice by a nurse. He said, "The person that was responsible for the overall administration and overseeing all of that, their employment has been terminated as of Monday."

Analyzing PSA level not sufficient for treatment decisions: Report

A new report published in the July 26 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine claims many men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer undergo aggressive therapy, even when they have low PSA scores and low-risk disease, saying "these results underscore the fact that PSA level, the current biomarker, is not a sufficient basis for treatment decisions."
