Boston Scientific reports first U.S. use of Blazer Open-Irrigated Catheter in BLOCk-CTI clinical trial

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced the first use of the BlazerĀ® Open-Irrigated Catheter in the U.S. as part of the BLOCk-CTI clinical trial. BLOCk-CTI is a prospective, randomized trial evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the Blazer Open-Irrigated Catheter in patients with sustained or recurrent Type 1 atrial flutter.

Investigational drug, LAF237 improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes

Research presented today showed that the investigational drug, LAF237, the first in a new class, improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. In this study, LAF237, which is administered as a tablet to be taken orally, was added to the standard diabetes treatment metformin in patients whose diabetes was not adequately controlled by metformin alone.

National stroke study sets new practice standard for Canada

A Canada-wide clinical research study of more than 1000 stroke patients has put to rest a long-standing controversy about the use of thrombolysis for stroke. The two-year study, Canadian Alteplase for Stroke Effectiveness Study (CASES), recommends the widespread use of clot-busting drugs for acute stroke.
