Modified Ecstasy could be effective against cancer: Study

Researchers from Birmingham University have designed a drug similar to the illicit drug Ecstasy (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) that could be used to treat leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma after making it 100 times more effective at suppressing growth.

Omecamtiv mecarbil fails to achieve primary endpoint in phase II ATOMIC-AHF study

Omecamtiv mecarbil, a cardiac myosin-activator, did not achieve its primary efficacy endpoint in reducing dyspnoea (shortness of breath) in patients with acute heart failure, according to the results of the phase II ATOMIC-AHF (Acute Treatment with Omecamtiv Mecarbil to Increase Contractility in Acute Heart Failure) study.

Study shows Kinerase cream aids skin appearance

Valeant Pharmaceuticals announced that it has introduced Kinerase(R) Intensive Eye Cream, based on the successful formula of its Kinerase facial lotion and cream. The new eye cream contains a 25 percent higher concentration of Kinetin, the natural substance in Kinerase products that helps the skin retain moisture and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Yoshimi Shibata, Ph.D., professor of biomedical science in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, has received a $380,552 grant from the National Institute of Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health to further investigate how microparticles called "chitin" found in crab, shrimp and lobster shells have anti-inflammatory mechanisms that could lead to the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for individuals who suffer from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and others diseases.
