Scientists launch clinical trial of CRISPR gene correction therapy in patients with sickle cell disease

New SACS Instrument launched to assess and classify peristomal skin lesions

A new evidence-based instrument to assess and classify peristomal skin lesions was launched at the 2010 Joint Conference of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society and World Council of Enterostomal Therapists. The instrument, known as the SACS Instrument, represents the first content-validated instrument to objectively assess and classify peristomal lesions by type and location in relation to an individual's stoma.

The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery.
