Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) have found that a second molecular pathway may need to be blocked to prevent malignant cells from creating new blood vessels [angiogenesis]. A study of patients with pancreatic cancer showed that CXCL5 may be a key molecule in the angiogenesis switch—the point at which cells stop being normal and start producing blood vessels that feed malignancy.
