Despite significant efforts by government agencies, consumer advocacy groups and industry to educate expecting parents about the medical significance of cord blood stem cells and the options for preserving them, three out of every four pregnant women still consider themselves only "minimally informed." However, data presented at an international meeting on stem cell science and policy found that a proprietary, web-based education system developed by Cord Blood Registry could be an effective and efficient method for improving awareness about all cord blood preservation options.
The Automation Partnership, a leading supplier of innovative automation for life science applications today announced that the company will now be known as TAP Biosystems.
A new study published in Clinical Breast Cancer demonstrates that Videssa® Breast, a multi-protein biomarker blood test to detect breast cancer, can help inform better decision-making after abnormal mammogram or other breast imaging results and potentially reduce use of biopsy by up to 67 percent.
Although some data have suggested a possible increased risk of intussusception (when a portion of the small or large intestine slides forward into itself, like a telescope) after administration of the pentavalent rotavirus vaccine in infants, an analysis that included almost 800,000 doses administered to U.S. infants found no increased risk of this condition following vaccination, according to a study in the February 8 issue of JAMA.
