Most children with rare genetic diseases spend years undergoing medical tests and waiting for a diagnosis - a long, exhausting process that takes its toll on children and their families. Almost half of these children never get a definitive diagnosis.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and AstraZeneca today announced results from a Phase 3 clinical study that showed the investigational compound dapagliflozin 10 mg demonstrated significant reductions in blood sugar levels (glycosylated hemoglobin levels, or HbA1c) compared with placebo at 24 weeks when either agent was added to existing sitagliptin therapy (with or without metformin) in adult patients with type 2 diabetes.
Alas, the penalties baked into the bill for disregarding the mandate, though not trivial, are low enough that many younger and healthier individuals are likely to find paying the penalty cheaper than owning up to the mandate. If that happens in significant numbers, as well it might, the premiums that private insurers will have to charge for the mandated coverage in the small-group market will be driven correspondingly higher (Uwe Reinhardt, 6/18).
Few people get a second chance at life. And fewer still are forced to take it before their 25th birthday. Tyler Rabey is one of those people. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia at the prime of his life; a cancer that defied all standard treatments.
