The law that has helped medical discoveries make the leap from university labs to the marketplace for more than 30 years needs revising, in part to ensure the American people benefit from science their tax dollars have paid for, says a University of Michigan Medical School physician and medical historian.
Sorbent Therapeutics, a private biopharmaceutical company developing therapies for cardiovascular and renal disorders, announced today that it has expanded the Company's Series B financing from September 2010 by $36 million.
The Miami Herald's Daniel Chang, working in partnership with Kaiser Health News, reports: "As health insurance companies shift more financial responsibility onto consumers through higher deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance rates, hospital executives are feeling pressure to reveal their most closely-held secret: prices. Last week, Miami Children's Hospital became one of the first in South Florida to give consumers more information -; but not exactly the prices -; they need to estimate their out-of-pocket costs, an increasingly important factor when deciding where to seek medical care" (Chang, 1/19).
Jamaica will not decriminalize and regulate commercial sex work in the country, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said recently in response to a suggestion from a Ministry of Health and Environment official, the Jamaica Observer reports.
The technique is based on the transmission of tiny electric current in a very thin film sample cell containing a colony of bacteria. The current produces electrolysis that changes the local pH level in the vicinity of the electrodes.
