A new study has explored a series of potential flavonoid inhibitors targeting 3CL protease of SARS-CoV.
Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and indeterminate colitis. The distinct phenotype in pediatric and adolescent patients and the difference from adult IBD make early-onset IBD a unique subgroup requiring specific therapeutic considerations. In this book, leading experts from the USA, Europe and Israel present new data on the genetics, epidemiology, pathology and pathogenesis of pediatric IBD. Imaging and endoscopy in the diagnosis of IBD are also discussed.
New analyses of the largest-ever clinical trial of patients with type 2 diabetes show that the combination of blood pressure lowering treatment and intensive glucose (blood sugar) control improved patients' vascular condition and resulted in a significant 18 percent reduction in the risk of death from all causes.
Contrary to some reports, taking statins, which are cholesterol-lowering drugs, offers no protection against Alzheimer's disease, according to research published in the January 16, 2008, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
