Scientists estimate the effect of the pandemic on life expectancy at birth, at 65 years overall, as well as for individual populations.
A team of researchers, led by physicians from Children's Hospital Los Angeles, have found that infants with bronchiolitis who were treated with inhaled hypertonic saline in the emergency department (ED) were less likely to require admission to the hospital compared to infants treated with normal saline.
Located deep in the human gut, the small intestine is not easy to examine. X-rays, MRIs and ultrasound images provide snapshots but each suffers limitations. Help is on the way.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, and Institute of Medicine President, Harvey Fineberg, will launch the Community Health Data Initiative, a national effort to help communities harness the power of information to improve health.
