New research suggests that obesity changes how airway muscles function, increasing the risk of developing asthma. The study is published ahead of print in the American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
A new statistical tool to help target resources following deadly natural disasters has been created by the University of Bristol, allowing governments to prioritize getting aid to the most vulnerable people.
Alcohol tests performed on nearly 2,000 young men and women frequenting bars in the west of France showed a strong correlation between body art and drinking, they said. "Pierced and/or tattooed individuals had consumed more alcohol in bars on a Saturday night than patrons in the same bars who were non-pierced and non-tattooed," said a study for the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
A common way of scheduling surgeries to expand patient access to care and improve hospital efficiency, known as "overlapping surgeries," is as safe and provides the same outcomes for patients as non-overlapping surgeries, a Mayo Clinic study has found.
