Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leader in the development of therapeutic and preventive vaccines against cancers and infectious diseases, announced today that it is initiating a Phase II clinical trial for its VGX-3100 DNA vaccine for cervical dysplasia and cancer caused by human papillomavirus.
A team of Russian scientists identified the role of the interleukin-6 molecule in the development of allergic asthma. Now it can be a new target for the treatment of this disease. The results are published in Frontiers in Immunology.
Researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine have found that giving blood plasma infusions taken from young donors to people with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease is not only safe and feasible, but may improve recipients' functional ability and capacity to perform daily tasks.
A new study finds that women who have experienced repeated episodes of sexual abuse during childhood or adolescence appear to have a 62% greater risk for heart disease. Further, severe physical abuse was also associated with a 45% increased risk for cardiovascular or CV events
During her doctoral research, De Vugt identified three strategies that care-providing family members adopt to approach the dementing patient. The 'supportive strategy', in which the carer adjusts to the patient's level of functioning, is the most effective. Equally a 'caring strategy', in which the carer considers the patient to be more like a child, gives rise to little restlessness in the patient.
