In a paper published today in Archives of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery entitled "Criterion-Based Training to Improve Surgical Performance," researchers at Montefiore Medical Center have demonstrated that current requirements for surgical proficiency, including the performance of a fixed number of surgeries, insufficiently assesses surgical capabilities and does not take into consideration individual learning differences.
Researchers at The University of Nottingham have developed a unique technology that will allow scientists to look at microscopic activity within the body's chemical messenger system for the very first time, live as it happens.
Previous cancer research has revealed that women are less likely than men to suffer from non-sex specific cancers such as cancer of the colon, pancreas and stomach. Scientists theorized that perhaps this trend was due to a protecting effect created by female hormones, such as estrogen, that help prevent tumors from forming. Now, researchers at the University of Missouri have found evidence suggesting that the male hormone testosterone may actually be a contributing factor in the formation of colon cancer tumors.
Iroko Pharmaceuticals, LLC today reported the results of the Phase I clinical study of its unique formulation of naproxen, a widely used pain medication, using proprietary, patent protected nanotechnology.
Compared with tap water, treatment with ketoprofen significantly reduces the rectal temperature and total clinical scores among pigs challenged with the Escherichia coli endotoxin, report researchers.
