Addition of the immunostimulatory antibody elotuzumab to the combination of lenalidomide and dexamethasone improves progression-free survival and the overall response rate in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, research suggests.
Acute lymphatic leukemia is the most common form of blood cancer in children. Even though chemotherapy is improving, the cancer often returns. Johan Jansson's research at Kalmar University in Sweden shows that cancer cells that have been exposed to chemotherapy and survived are less vulnerable to chemotherapy, and more aggressive as well. But this research also yielded discoveries that should be able to enhance our treatment of the disease.
Doctors, health organizations, and the Surgeon General all agree that exercise is good for the heart - but the reasons why are still not well understood.
Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine have shown for the first time how the activation of a receptor provokes the inflammation and bone degradation of rheumatoid arthritis - and that activation of this one receptor, found on cells in the fluid of arthritic joints, is all that is required.
