South Asians are more likely to die of heart disease, such as heart attacks and strokes caused by atherosclerosis - the disease process that narrows arteries - than East Asians and non-Hispanic whites living in the United States, according to a new scientific statement from the American Heart Association published in its journal Circulation.
According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, intracranial endovascular procedures to treat aneurysms will grow at over 5% through 2014 in the US. MRG's new US Markets for Transcatheter Embolization and Occlusion Devices 2010 report finds that technological advancements in embolization coils as well as imaging and coiling-assist technology will continue to drive growth in aneurysm coiling procedures.
Red meat refers to the flesh obtained from cows, pigs and lambs, that is, beef, pork and lamb/mutton respectively. These contain more of the muscle protein called myoglobin which carries oxygen to the muscle tissue, similar to hemoglobin in the blood.
Accumulation of the substance amyloid beta in the brain impairs the memory and cognitive ability in people with Alzheimer's. New findings from Lund University in Sweden show that the cause of amyloid beta pathology might be more versatile than previously known. Researchers believe that these new findings may be of significance to the development of new medications.
