American Oriental Bioengineering first-quarter revenue increases 16.7% to $53.7 million

NiKem Research receives Italian authorization to perform toxicology studies of NCEs in rodents

NiKem Research is pleased to announce that it has received on March 29th 2010, from the Italian Ministry of Health (Decree N. 69/2010-B), the authorization to perform acute and sub-chronic toxicology studies (upto 28 days) in all rodent species for preliminary safety evaluation of novel chemical entities (NCEs). Toxicokinetic (TK) studies are also allowed to correlate plasma and/or organ exposure of NCEs (and metabolites) to tolerated doses in toxicology studies.

Prolonged exposure therapy shows greater success for treating adolescent PTSD patients

Researchers at Penn Medicine report in the December 25 issue of JAMA that a modified form of prolonged exposure therapy - in which patients revisit and recount aloud their trauma-related thoughts, feelings and situations - shows greater success than supportive counseling for treating adolescent PTSD patients who have been sexually abused.

Severe fibrosis increases early atherosclerosis risk in patients with chronic HCV-1 infection

Italian researchers report that severe fibrosis increases the early atherosclerosis risk in patients with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. A second study found that fatty liver disease also increases risk of developing atherosclerosis at an earlier period. Both studies appear in the May issue of Hepatology, a journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

New data from a meta-analysis of existing literature published today in CHEST, the official journal of the American College of Chest Physicians, demonstrate that Interferon Gamma Release Assays are superior to the previous standard in diagnostics, the 100+-year-old tuberculin skin test, for detecting confirmed active Tuberculosis disease.
