Individuals who receive implantable cardiac defibrillators after a sudden heart event appear more likely to die within five years if they experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, regardless of the severity of their disease, according to a report in the November issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.
The key to getting people to eat more fruits and vegetables may be advertising, finds a new study in the American Journal of Health Promotion. Marketing seems to play a role in guiding people to eat better, said study co-author Michel Faupel, of the University of Arkansas. "It's not huge, but it's a measurable impact."
ChromaDex Corporation, a leader in phytochemical reference standards and contract research, today announced financial results for the Fiscal Year ending January 2, 2010. On a reported basis calculated in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP), ChromaDex announced a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $0.03 per share for the one year period ended January 2, 2010. As of January 2, 2010, cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities totaled $471,378.
Although botulinum toxin A injections are U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved for preventive treatment for chronic migraines, a review and analysis of previous studies finds a small to modest benefit for patients with chronic migraine headaches and chronic daily headaches, although botox injections were not associated with greater benefit than placebo for preventing episodic migraine or chronic tension-type headaches, according to an article in the April 25 issue of JAMA.
Radioactive iodine should only be used in the treatment of some patients with papillary thyroid cancer, according to data presented at the 82nd Annual Meeting of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) in Québec City, Québec, Canada.
