The new health care practice of "hotspotting" - in which providers identify very high-cost patients and attempt to reduce their medical spending while improving care - has virtually no impact on patient outcomes, according to a new study led by MIT economists.
A new study led by scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) reveals a previously unknown type of immune cell. The discovery opens new avenues in the effort to develop novel therapies for autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes.
Although the last two decades have seen an increase in awareness and the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder, policy and practice to meet the needs of this group have not consistently kept pace. To combat part of this problem, the International Society for Autism Research has awarded a competitive grant to local leaders who are working to improve interactions between autistic individuals and the justice system.
For the first time, a simple blood test may be the best way to determine if a patient is suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or another serious condition such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, according to Cedars-Sinai physician researcher Mark Pimentel, MD, lead author of a multicenter clinical trial.
