Researchers exploring why some women who take a common breast cancer drug develop serious joint pain have eliminated two possible causes: inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune disease.
On January 30, 2015, employees represented by the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) working in nine Community Care Access Centres (CCACs) went on strike. Ontario's CCACs believe that their patients, caregivers, health care partners, the general public and employees deserve a fact-based context for judging the relative merit of this labour disruption.
About half of all states are cutting public health care, an area that is already stretched thin by previous cuts in 31 states and a spike in Medicaid enrollment induced by high unemployment. Services for mental health, abused children, the elderly and the underinsured are the primary targets (Hube, 5/27).
A University of Arkansas professor and her colleagues will receive $1.3 million over four years to study the immune response to implanted sensors, such as glucose sensors for diabetics, in hopes of prolonging the life of these important monitoring systems.
