A collaboration among a medical device innovator, the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (ISR), the nonprofit National Trauma Institute and the State of Texas enters its final phase as the FDA-approved Wireless Vital Signs Monitor (WVSM) begins clinical trials this month in the Memorial Hermann Medical Center emergency department and on Houston Life Flight.
Buoyed by the extraordinary progress being made by the ALS Therapy Development Institute, the Muscular Dystrophy Association today announced a new milestone-driven grant of $2.5 million, adding to the $18 million MDA already has invested with ALS TDI - the world's only non-profit research center focused exclusively on developing treatments for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
In a clinical trial that included nearly 80,000 women, those who received ovarian cancer screening did not have a reduced risk of death from ovarian cancer compared to women who received usual care, but did have an increase in invasive medical procedures and associated harms as a result of being screened, according to a study in the June 8 issue of JAMA, a theme issue on cancer.
