Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development-stage oncology and dermatology biopharmaceutical company, has held its second meeting with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration ("TGA") to discuss milestones for approval of PV-10 for treatment of metastatic melanoma. The TGA is the part of the Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing responsible for the assessment, approval and monitoring of therapeutic goods available in Australia. The initial meeting with the TGA was held in October 2008.
Researchers at Karolinska Institutet recommends a new routine for protection against infection when percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), a tube for feeding directly through the abdominal wall, is surgically inserted in the stomach. The new routine is both simpler and cheaper than the one used today. The method, presented in the British Medical Journal, has been clinically tested on over 200 patients at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden.
Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found, in mice, that treatment with an antibiotic reduces the size of lesions caused by endometriosis.
"Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said Monday he intends to ease what he called the financial burden his health bill would impose on middle-income families, making adjustments financed in part by paring back the amount of deficit reduction in the legislation," The Wall Street Journal reports. "In an interview, the Montana Democrat said some $28 billion of the funds now dedicated to deficit reduction could be diverted into proposals that would make the bill more affordable to working-class Americans."
