Millions of Americans complain of heel pain, which is usually caused by plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the plantar fascia (ligament that runs from your heel to the toes) becomes inflamed. This condition can be very painful and cause a considerable amount of suffering.
The New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research (NJCCR) has awarded Janice Thomas, PhD, a post-doctoral fellow in the X.F. Steven Zheng laboratory at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey a two-year $100,000 grant (#DFHS13PPCO32) to further examine the impact of a protein 'trigger' involved in the regulation of cell function in breast cancer.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulators have issued a warning on the blood pressure drug known generically as olmesartan medoxomil. The drug can cause intestinal problems known as spruelike enteropathy, which has side effects including severe, chronic diarrhea and substantial weight loss, sometimes requiring hospitalization.
A little more than a decade ago, researchers discovered that all cells secrete tiny communications modules jammed with an entire work crew of messages for other cells. Today, a team of researchers, led by stem cell researcher Raj Kishore, PhD, Director of the Stem Cell Therapy Program at the Center for Translational Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, is harnessing the communications vesicles excreted by stem cells and using them to induce the damaged heart to repair itself.
Targeting a master molecule that helps cancer cells survive when blood oxygen levels are low may offer a potentially powerful strategy for blocking tumor growth, say researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
