In order for cancer to spread, malignant cells must break away from a tumor and through the tough netting of extracellular matrix, or ECM, that surrounds it. To fit through the holes in this net, those cancerous cells must elongate into a torpedo-like shape.
Today marks the one year anniversary of S.A.Y. Detroit's Family Health Clinic, the nation's first free 24-hour clinic for homeless children and their mothers. With a growing homeless population and an increasing number of children without medical coverage, the clinic - which is funded entirely by donations by citizens and businesses - has to date, served more than 1,046 patients during 3,500 visits, marking a successful first year.
Mirada Medical, a global leader in Artificial Intelligence software for the treatment of cancer, has announced today further global installations of DLCExpert, the world's first commercially available AI-powered auto contouring software for cancer treatment planning and the only system with over one year of clinically proven use.
A team of researchers has found that doses of bilirubin help provide suppression of the immune response following islet transplantation in mouse models.
HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt on Friday said that the agency will maintain the current Medicare payment rate for physicians because Congress was unable to pass legislation to avert a 10.6% cut scheduled to go into effect on Tuesday before lawmakers left for the Fourth of July recess, the Washington Post reports. According to the Post, congressional aides said the freeze to payment rates could last 10 days (Kane, Washington Post, 6/28).
