The US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee (EMDAC) has voted unanimously in support of the use of Signifor (pasireotide) for the treatment of patients with Cushing's disease who require medical therapeutic intervention.
Despite a distance of more than a thousand miles, staff at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tenn., and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, in Paterson, N.J., simultaneously reviewed diagnostic images from patients at the joint launch of the hospitals' new telemedicine equipment, making them the first two medical institutions in the country to employ this form of high-definition technology.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, recently mobilized its Food Safety Response Center (FSRC) to develop a method to test for the presence of the veterinary drug phenylbutazone in horsemeat. Phenylbutazone, also known as "bute," is a potent painkiller banned in any horsemeat intended for human consumption.
