In an effort to improve wound healing and reduce scarring, a team of researchers in The Netherlands tested a treatment technique on patients with serious, deep burns that employed SSGs along with autologous cultured proliferating epidermal cells (ECs) compared to SSGs alone.
BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc. today announced it initiated enrollment in a pilot clinical trial to assess the safety and clinical utility of AugmentTM Rotator Cuff Graft for the repair of large rotator cuff tears. The randomized, controlled pilot trial is expected to include enrollment of up to 30 patients.
Researchers have identified four new genetic regions that influence birth weight, providing further evidence that genes as well as maternal nutrition are important for growth in the womb. Three of the regions are also linked to adult metabolism, helping to explain why smaller babies have higher rates of chronic diseases later in life.
