Sanaria Inc. and the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative has officially opened a one-of-a-kind clinical manufacturing facility to produce a vaccine that uses a weakened form of the malaria parasite to fight a disease that annually kills more than one million people, most of them African children.
RIKILT Wageningen University & Research and the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority's Laboratory for Food and Feed Safety will merge into a new institute effective 1 June 2019.
This Thursday, July 8, 2010, the Academy of General Dentistry and the AGD Foundation will team up with the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry to hold its first outreach project, Nation of Smiles, One Smile at a Time. This event will provide upwards of 300 patients from local shelters, clinics and charities with free dental care from volunteer dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants from around the nation. LSU dental students also will be participating.
High-tech, digital mammography may not be any better at detecting breast cancer in women over 65 than older film-based systems, but Medicare is spending millions of taxpayer dollars reimbursing the procedure at a far higher rate. A new study comparing digital mammography with less expensive film mammography found that the two types of breast cancer screens are equally effective at detecting cancers in most women. ... The study was performed by the National Cancer Institute-funded Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium.
Overall, Americans did not do well on a survey of their long-term care knowledge. Most know what long-term care is and how much it costs, but their scores fall short regarding how many people will need it and how they will pay for it. The MetLife Long-Term Care IQ Survey, taken by 1,021 individuals aged 40 to 70 in 2009, compared results with a similar 2004 study.
