Watson Pharmaceuticals today announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a novel oral contraceptive product – the first and only low dose oral contraceptive to combine 0.8 mg norethindrone and 0.025 mg ethinyl estradiol in chewable form, with four 75 mg ferrous fumarate (iron) placebo tablets. Taken orally, once daily, the product is proven effective in lowering the risk of pregnancy.
The figures, published today [Tuesday, 12 January] are from latest publication of the NICE Technology Appraisals in the NHS in England - Innovation Scorecard.

(NVIV) announced today that it has received conditional approval from the Food and Drug Administration for proposed changes to the protocol and supporting documents for the safety trial of its first investigational product, a degradable polymer scaffold for spinal cord injury.
Allergan, Inc. today announced a new study published in the peer-reviewed journal Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases that found the cost of a gastric banding weight-loss surgery procedure, such as Allergan's LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System, was offset by reductions in obesity-related medical costs within 2.25 years for surgery eligible patients with diabetes, and within four years of the procedure for all surgery eligible patients.
