Investigators at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research have discovered a protein in the human body that can trigger and mediate inflammation in patients suffering from hemorrhage and sepsis. The findings were published in the online version of Nature Medicine on October 6, 2013.
More than 5,000 internal medicine physicians, or internists, subspecialists, medical students, and allied health professionals will meet in New Orleans for Internal Medicine 2012, the annual scientific meeting of the American College of Physicians (ACP), April 19 - 21 (Thursday - Saturday), at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Internists specialize in the prevention, detection, and treatment of illnesses in adults.
A collaborative team centered in the University of California, Irvine and including Children's Hospital Orange County and Chapman University has been awarded a three-year grant totaling in excess of $2.3 million, to address the health impacts of adverse childhood experiences using precision medicine.
Scientists headed by ICREA researcher Angel R. Nebreda at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) report a new mechanism that contributes to the development of inflammation-associated colon cancer and points to new therapeutic targets. The study has been published in the journal EMBO Molecular Medicine.
