Dyax Corp. today announced the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 17,000,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $3.25 per share. The gross proceeds from the sale of shares, after underwriting discounts and commissions and estimated offering expenses, are expected to be approximately $51.8 million. The offering is expected to close on or about March 30, 2010, subject to customary closing conditions.
Being female and living in a rural area are among several factors that predicted whether an elderly person with depression recovered over the course of a year, finds a recent study in Depression Research and Treatment. Additional risk factors included having high levels of stress, being chronically ill and having a low estimate of one's own mental health.
Scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine have devised a software algorithm that could enable a common laboratory device to virtually separate a whole-blood sample into its different cell types and detect medically important gene-activity changes specific to any one of those cell types.
In the Center for Global Development's "Global Health Policy"(CGD) blog, Victoria Fan, a CGD research fellow, and Rachel Silverman, a research assistant for the CGD global health team, examine the potential reasons behind "the U.S. government's apparent lack of support, particularly its legislated 'opt-in' stance," on the Affordable Medicines Facility for Malaria (AMFm), and they note "AMFm's continued survival is all but impossible without an explicit endorsement by the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator who leads the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative."
