Rather than gaining "liquid courage" to let loose with friends, teenage drinkers are more likely to feel like social outcasts, according to a new sociological study.
The unwillingness of the global AIDS community to accept the status quo is fuelling a new era of scientific innovation to drive novel ways of treating and preventing HIV, organizers of the XVIII International AIDS Conference taking place in Vienna, Austria said today. And, with millions of lives dependent on expanding access to antiretroviral treatment to all those clinically in need, researchers and clinicians are partnering in new ways to find the most effective and efficient methods to deliver treatment and strengthen health systems.
Christopher A. Holden, President and Chief Executive Officer of AmSurg Corp., today announced that AmSurg and National Surgical Care (NSC) have signed a revised definitive agreement under which AmSurg will purchase substantially all of NSC's assets for $135 million in cash.
GATC Biotech's new sequencing laboratory will be their second in Germany and will be located in the Life Science Center Düsseldorf. Through the new facilities, scientists from Northern Germany and adjacent countries will benefit from GATC Biotech's special overnight service, called NightXpress, which was first introduced in 2007.
This study suggests that genetically engineered malaria parasites that are stunted through precise gene deletions (genetically attenuated parasites, or "GAP") could be used as a vaccine that protects against malaria infection. This means that the harmless (attenuated) version of the parasite would interact with the body in the same way as the infective version, but without possibility of causing disease.
