Women experiencing a minor stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) are less likely to be diagnosed with a stroke compared to men - even though they describe similar symptoms in emergency departments.
For the first time in its 50-year history, the physicians at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital will be led by an all-female team of medical officers. The 2012 physician executive team is Dulces Leon-Jauregui, MD, president, Janet Aganad, DO, president-elect and Laura Cozzi, MD, secretary/treasurer. Mary Uckerman, MD, is the first woman to serve as credentialing chairman at the Loyola University Health System hospital.
Whether their effectiveness is fact or fiction, less invasive cosmetic procedures such as cleavage rejuvenation, do-it-yourself (DIY) cosmetic therapies, and using Botox- to "lift" the breasts are making headlines, but are they safe? Plastic surgeons will discuss if these, and more, are cutting edge new discoveries or just "buyer beware" marketing hype at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Plastic Surgery 2009 conference, Oct. 23 - 27, in Seattle.
According to a recent poll of 1,000 American voters conducted for the American College of Radiology, nearly 9-in-10 women reported that having a regular mammogram gave them a feeling of control over their own health care. Nearly 90 percent of women who had a mammogram considered mammograms important to their health and well-being.
Researchers from the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine recommend the discontinuation of ibuprofen prior to surgery to correct gum disease because blood loss is two times greater for those using the medication than those not taking it.
