The COVID-19 pandemic is seriously affecting the sleep habits of half of those surveyed in a new study from The Royal and the University of Ottawa, leading to further stress and anxiety plus further dependence on sleep medication.
While cigarette smoking continues to be the leading cause of preventable disease, disability and death in the U.S., the evidence base for cessation support has revealed that telephone call centers, or "quitlines," have been a particularly successful intervention, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recently published a compilation of scientific research in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
A new technique that converts stem cells into brain cells has been developed by researchers at Lund University. The method is simpler, quicker and safer than previous research has shown and opens the doors to a shorter route to clinical cell transplants.
Kowa Company, Ltd. announced today that the results of a Phase II/III trial showed that high dose peretinoin (NIK-333) given daily for up to 96 weeks reduced the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgical resection or ablation in hepatitis C virus (HCV) positive patients when compared to placebo.
In the past, a patient 55 or older had little or no chance of receiving a life-saving kidney transplant. But improvements in medicine have many doctors re-evaluating older patients who need a new organ.
