A two-year program for depressed employees treated at 12 primary care practices nationwide improved productivity at work by an average of 6 percent, or an estimated annual value of $1,491 per depressed full-time employee.
The U.S. Department of Defense has granted the "Impact Award" to explore new therapeutic options against advanced prostate cancer - scientifically known as castration-resistant or hormone therapy resistant prostate cancer- to a multidisciplinary team of researchers made up of the Prostate Cancer Clinical Research Unit of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center, led by David Olmos, the Prostate Cancer Translational Research Group of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology, led by Joaquín Mateo, and the Genetics and Solid Tumors Laboratory of the University of Washington, led by Colin Pritchard.
Compared with women in a recent study who slept seven to eight hours each night, women who slept for ≤5 hours or ≥10 hours had about a 25 percent increased odds of experiencing recurrent falls (falling at least twice in a year).
A new strategy for cancer therapy, which converts the tumor-promoting effect of the immune system's inflammatory response into a cancer-killing outcome, is suggested in research findings by investigators at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine.
