China Kanghui Holdings, a leading domestic developer, manufacturer and marketer of orthopedic implants in China, today announced that the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, TGM Medical, Inc., has received approvals from the Food and Drug Administration of the United States for its Helicon Hip System ("HHS"), Milestone Knee System ("MKS") and related surgical instruments.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Sutent (sunitinib malate) for the adjuvant treatment of adult patients who are at a high risk of kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma) returning after a kidney has been removed (nephrectomy).
"A growing number of countries are adopting India's intellectual property regulations, which give enough flexibility to local companies to produce generic versions of popular drugs to safeguard public health," India's Economic Times reports, noting, "In March, India issued the country's first compulsory license, allowing Natco Pharma to legally manufacture and sell a low-cost version of German drugmaker Bayer AG's patented cancer drug, Nexavar, at 3 percent of the original medicine's price on the grounds that Bayer's drug was not meeting public health requirement."
MedImmune today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1/2a clinical trial of a live, attenuated intranasal vaccine in healthy children one month to 12 months of age to help prevent severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. RSV is the most common respiratory infection in infants and can cause disease in otherwise healthy infants and children.
The Senate Appropriations Committee Thursday unanimously voted to approve a $59 billion war funding measure that includes "more than $5 billion to replenish disaster aid accounts, as well as funding for Haitian earthquake relief," the Associated Press reports (Taylor, 5/13).
