In normal development, all cells turn off genes they don't need, often by attaching a chemical methyl group to the DNA, a process called methylation. Historically, scientists believed methyl groups could only stick to a particular DNA sequence: a cytosine followed by a guanine, called CpG. But in recent years, they have been found on other sequences, and so-called non-CpG methylation has been found in stem cells, and in neurons in the brain.
TearLab Corporation today announced that it has entered into a cooperative marketing agreement with Abbott Medical Optics Inc.'s subsidiary, AMO Canada Company. Under the agreement, AMO Canada's sales force will directly sell the TearLab™ Osmolarity System in Canada while TearLab will help promote AMO Canada's products for the relief of dry eye symptoms, including Blink® Moisturizing Eye Drops. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Air Methods Corporation, the largest air medical transportation company in the world, recently delivered the first medically equipped Bell 429 helicopter to Mercy One, its hospital-based services customer in Des Moines, Iowa. Air Methods' Products Division is the first in the world to design, engineer, manufacture, and certify a medical interior for the Bell 429 helicopter.
A study published Monday in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved concludes that ethnicity is associated with nutrient shortfalls of important nutrients. This study compared usual intake for essential nutrients between Non-Hispanic Black and Non-Hispanic White Americans using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2007-2010.
