A gene that's associated with an autoimmune form of hair loss could be exploited to improve cancer immunotherapy, suggests a new mouse study by Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) researchers.
Given her relatively young age, Dr. Rae Lyn Burke didn't think much about her family history of Alzheimer's disease - a grandmother and an aunt had suffered from it, but they were much older. Ironically, Burke was just in her late 50s when she started having her own symptoms of early onset Alzheimer's. Even more ironic is that Burke had been one of the key developers of the Alzheimer's drug bapineuzumab, which she now takes herself to reduce the progression of the disease in her own brain.
What to do: walk around the block or work up a sweat in an aerobic workout at the gym? Progressive Medical and PMSI announced today that the two companies have entered into a definitive agreement to merge. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter subject to receipt of regulatory clearance. The combined company, which will be led by Executive Chairman Eileen Auen from PMSI and Co-CEOs Emry Sisson and Tommy Young from Progressive Medical, will deliver comprehensive workers' compensation pharmacy benefit management services including end-to-end pharmacy, ancillary and settlement solutions.
Although female doctors training to become emergency medicine specialists scored as well as their male colleagues during the first year of their three-year programs, by the end of the third year, male residents, on average, received higher evaluations on all 23 emergency medicine training categories - including medical knowledge, patient safety, team management and communication - than female residents.
