The Washington Post reports on the Obama administration's efforts "to bring thousands of young primary care doctors to underserved areas … and keep them there. The administration recently invested more than $1 billion from the stimulus and the health-care law into the National Health Services Corps to beef up doctor recruitment.
The CLASS Act, part of the new health reform law (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), will offer a type of long term care insurance for working people and others who may become disabled. But confusion and doubt are widespread. "Many wonder how the CLASS Act will affect them personally," says Jonas Roeser, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Operations for LTC Financial Partners LLC, one of the nation's most experienced long term care insurance agencies.
Patients with Parkinson's disease who undergo deep brain stimulation (DBS)—a treatment in which a pacemaker-like device sends pulses to electrodes implanted in the brain—can expect stable improvement in muscle symptoms for at least three years, according to a Department of Veterans Affairs study appearing in the most recent issue of the journal Neurology.
An editorial published by The BMJ today raises important concerns about the health and wellbeing of the NHS workforce after a parliamentary report found "burnout is a widespread reality in today's NHS."
New data presented at the American Thoracic Society's 2004 International Conference show that once-daily treatment with the investigational therapy Alvesco (ciclesonide) in mild-to-moderate asthma patients has no effect on normal adrenal function, as demonstrated by measurements of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis.
