Researchers in Israel have conducted a study exploring the behavioral and psychological impact of the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic in an effort to understand the biological and environmental factors that may influence how individuals cope with the crisis.
To ignite a life-threatening infection in the body, a virus such as HIV invades body cells by first merging, or fusing, with the cell's outer membrane. Once inside the cell, the invading microbe's genetic material takes over, turning the 'host' cell into a factory to produce more copies of the virus, which then spill out to invade other cells in the body.
IRCM researchers, led by endocrinologist Dr. R-mi Rabasa-Lhoret, were the first to conduct a trial comparing a dual-hormone artificial pancreas with conventional diabetes treatment using an insulin pump and showed improved glucose levels and lower risks of hypoglycemia.
Researchers at the University of Chicago are studying possible connections between living in disadvantaged neighborhoods and the development of early onset breast cancer in a path-breaking project led by Sarah Gehlert, Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Disparities Research.
Results from a German national health survey indicate that asthma patients with multiple comorbidities are at increased risk for unplanned hospital admissions.
