Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that its underwriters partially exercised their over-allotment option in connection with its previously announced public offering that priced on November 11, 2010, by purchasing an additional 1,000,000 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $8.00 per share. Including the over-allotment shares purchased, Cadence sold a total of 12,500,000 shares in the offering, resulting in expected aggregate gross proceeds to the company of $100 million.
Radiotherapy destroys cancer cells using high-energy ionizing radiation to damage DNA and induce cell death. About two million patients per year in the United States - more than 50 percent of all cancer patients - receive radiotherapy at some stage during their illness, either alone or in combination with chemotherapy, surgery, and targeted medicines.
A drug that has been used for 40 years for the treatment of skin fungus has been found to be a possible cancer treatment, according to an international team of scientists. Leslie Wilson, professor of biochemistry and pharmacology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, said that the antifungal drug, griseofulvin, has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in his laboratory.
