The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday approved Vyxeos - a fixed dose combination chemotherapy for the treatment of adults with two types of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The types of AML that would be treated with Vyxeos include newly diagnosed therapy-related AML (t-AML) and AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC). Vyxeos is a fixed-combination of the chemotherapy drugs daunorubicin and cytarabine.
A collaboration of researchers from 120 different institutes across 30 countries including France, Germany, Australia, Japan, USA, India, Turkey, Brazil, and Canada initiated an effort to develop a COVID-19 Disease Map - a collection of computational models and diagrams of molecular mechanisms implicated in COVID-19.
Pain Therapeutics, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded over $2,000,000 in research grants by the U.S. government. These grants are planned to support the Company's on-going biomedical research for nervous system disorders and oncology. Pain Therapeutics expects to receive funding from these research grants now through the end of 2011.
Dr. Russell Russo, an Orthopedic Surgeon at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, and other researchers stress that orthopedists should have a high index of suspicion for necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating bacterial infection, in every patient with pain or other symptoms that are out of proportion to the initial diagnosis. Their recommendations are published in the September 2012 issue of Orthopedics Today.
Nighttime snacking and junk food cravings may contribute to unhealthy eating behaviors and represent a potential link between poor sleep and obesity, according to a study by University of Arizona Health Sciences sleep researchers.
