A reformulation of OxyContin that makes it harder to abuse has curtailed the drug's illicit use. But some 25 percent of drug abusers entering rehab said they still abused the prescription painkiller despite package labeling that emphasizes its abuse-deterrent properties, new research indicates.
Nearly half of all patients who suffer migraines report sleep disturbance as a trigger for their headaches. But the relationship between sleep and migraine headaches is not well understood or well-studied.
Microvesicles are smallest cell elements which are present in all body fluids and are different, depending on whether a person is healthy or sick. This could contribute to detecting numerous diseases, such as, e.g., carcinomas, at an early stage, and to treating them more efficiently. The problem is that the diameter of the relevant microvesicles generally lies below 100 nm, which makes them technically detectable, but their exact size and concentration hardly possible to determine. A new device is now to provide the metrological basis for these promising biomarkers.
U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's rules and procedures are seriously delaying and in some cases preventing nursing home patients from getting the pain medication they need.
Noting the United Nations on Wednesday observed the annual International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C), "an act that is shocking and inhumane to much of the world but remains a tradition among a significant minority," Inter Press Service correspondent Marzieh Goudarzi interviews U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) Executive Director Babatunde Osotimehin "on UNFPA's role in the global fight against FMG/C."
