Highly focused, intense doses of radiation called stereotactic ablative radiation (SABR) may slow progression of disease in a subset of men with hormone-sensitive prostate cancers that have spread to a few separate sites in the body, according to results of a phase II clinical trial of the therapy.
Researchers at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and University Health Network in Toronto, along with researchers at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, have created protein signatures that accurately diagnose prostate cancer and can distinguish between patients with aggressive versus non-aggressive disease using a simple urine sample.
New research led by investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear indicates that the blood pressure drug losartan may benefit patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), a hereditary condition associated with vestibular schwannomas, or noncancerous tumors along the nerves in the brain that are involved with hearing and balance.
Abiomed Inc., a leading provider of breakthrough heart support technologies, today announced that data from the PROTECT II study will be presented by Jeffrey W. Moses, M.D., Director of Interventional Services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University - Cornell Medical Center, during the late-breaking registries and clinical trial update session at EuroPCR 2011 in Paris.
