Using bar-code technology with an electronic medication administration record (eMAR) substantially reduces transcription and medication administration errors, as well as potential drug-related adverse events, says a new study funded by HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The study is published in the May 6 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
The American Society of Transplantation (AST) will present a scientific conference this winter that offers an in-depth, up-to-date look at immunosuppression and tolerance - but with a brand new vibe. Called the Annual Scientific Exchange (ASE), slated for December 2-6, 2009, at the Marriott World Center in Orlando, Florida, it will differ from the typical conference in its format, which is specifically designed to be relaxed yet focused.
Bianca Edison, MD, MS is an attending physician in the Children's Orthopaedic Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and is assistant clinical professor of Orthopaedics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Edison is a licensed, Board-Certified pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics who completed a fellowship in Primary Care SportsMedicine. Her interests and experience include orthopaedic conditions affecting young children, teens, and athletes.
