The 1918 "Spanish Flu" was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, killing 50-100 million people.
Researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the University of Chicago have found that a single, one-hour treatment involving the inhalation of a mixture of oxygen and the anesthetic drug nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, can improve symptoms of depression in people resistant to treatment.
Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a relatively common cardiovascular emergency. Clots originating in the leg veins may become detached and obstruct the lung vessels. This obstruction may lead to a rise of pressure in the pulmonary circulation and possibly to life-threatening heart failure.
In 1992 the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) was established and began its work to help address the nation's behavioral health needs - including those of our nation's military service members, veterans, and their families.
