A new Eljay LLC analysis of the nation's Medicaid financing system projecting states will cumulatively underfund the actual cost of providing quality long term care by nearly $4.7 billion for 2009, and finds seniors in the states of New York, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, California and Wisconsin will bear the brunt of the underfunding burden at a time when these states and many others are already suffering from rising pressure on state Medicaid budgets.
Rheumatoid arthritis patients have an approximately two-fold increased morbidity and mortality in infections compared to a population without the disease.
MSD reported that final results from a Phase III study of 'Victrelis', its investigational oral hepatitis C protease inhibitor, added to peginterferon alfa-2a marketed by Roche Products Limited, and ribavirin therapy were presented for the first time today as part of a late-breaker poster session at The International Liver Congress / 46th European Association for the Study of the Liver annual meeting.
In a special issue of Biological Psychiatry titled "Cortical Excitation-Inhibition Balance and Dysfunction in Psychiatric Disorders", guest editors Dr. Alan Anticevic and Dr. John Murray, both of Yale University, bring together seven reviews that highlight advancements in understanding the balance of excitatory and inhibitory signaling in the brain, and what might happen when it goes awry.
Use of estrogen therapy is associated with an increased risk of developing kidney stones in postmenopausal women, according to a report in the October 11 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
