A Purdue University-led research team has figured out how to disable a part of the SARS virus responsible for hiding it from the immune system; a critical step in developing a vaccine against the deadly disease.
Experiments with an artificial stomach suggest that a popular lemon-lime soft drink could play an unexpected role in improving the effectiveness of an oral anticancer drug. The experiments produced evidence that patients will absorb more of the unnamed drug, tested in Phase I in clinical trials, when taken with "flat" or degassed Sprite. The study appears in ACS' Molecular Pharmaceutics, a bi-monthly journal.

The study showed that the NOL monitor is able to detect the effect of dexmedetomidine on the patient's pain response and enable administration of less intraoperative opioids.
Researchers from Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC have found that wound healing after lower extremity bypass or endovascular revascularization demonstrated a more complete and faster rate of healing for larger wounds of more than 2 cm after open bypass. Findings will be presented at the 64th Vascular Annual Meeting presented by the Society for Vascular Surgery, June 10 in Boston.
