The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has released a set of clinical practice guidelines to address major advances in the evaluation and management of patients with aortic valve disease.
According to the American Academy of Paediatrics' new guidelines released this week, all adolescents should undergo a screening for depression annually. The guidelines is published titled, "Guidelines for Adolescent Depression in Primary Care (GLAD-PC): Part I. Practice Preparation, Identification, Assessment, and Initial Management," by the GLAD-PC Steering group.
African-Americans are much less likely to smoke than whites are during their teens.
In a post on the New York Time's "On the Ground" blog, Rwanda Works Director Josh Ruxin writes about two Rwandan cousins who are "fighting the international brain-drain trend that is dangerously affecting medicine in the developing world, and have committed themselves to building local medical capacity in their native country" by establishing a university and medical school, called the Kigali Medical.
Researchers at the Colorado School of Public Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus received notification of a $1 million, first-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry to address the human health effects of contaminated drinking water in El Paso County, Colorado.
